Terms of Service
The terms for using the D20DAO agent API at https://api.d20dao.org.
Last updated:
The service
These terms cover the D20DAO verifiable randomness API at https://api.d20dao.org (the "Service"). The Service is provided by D20DAO, an unincorporated project operated by its contributors. "D20DAO", "we" and "us" mean the D20DAO contributors who operate the Service.
Each paid call opens one request on the D20DAO VRF coordinator on the Arc network and returns a random result with its on-chain proof: a 256-bit word, coin flips, dice rolls, a number in a range, choices or a shuffle.
The D20DAO protocol contracts and SDK are open source. These terms cover the hosted API. They do not limit the rights their open-source licences give you.
Acceptance
By calling or paying for the Service, you accept these terms, the Refund policy and the Privacy notice. If you do not accept them, do not use the Service.
If an AI agent, script or other software uses the Service for you, these terms bind you and you are responsible for what it does. Whoever controls the wallet that signs a payment is the customer for that call. If you accept for an organisation, you confirm that you can bind it.
Eligibility and lawful use
You must be at least 18 and able to form a binding contract. Do not use the Service where using it is unlawful, or if sanctions laws prohibit us from dealing with you.
You are responsible for complying with the laws that apply to your use, including gambling, lottery, sweepstakes and prize draw rules. We supply random numbers. We do not run games, draws or lotteries, and we hold no gaming licence. If you use results in an activity with stakes or prizes, you are responsible for any licence, registration, disclosure or rule it requires.
We do not claim certification by any gaming regulator, testing laboratory or auditor.
If a third party makes a claim against us because of your unlawful use of the Service or your breach of these terms, you will cover our reasonable losses and costs.
Pricing and payment
The current price is 0.05 USDC per paid call. Only POST /v1/random is paid. The other routes are free.
You pay in USDC over x402, from a Circle Gateway balance on any network the Service accepts. The price that applies to a call is the amount in the 402 Payment Required response you sign. We may change the price at any time. A change does not affect calls already paid.
Your payment is settled before the request is opened on chain. Resending the same payment returns the same result and is not charged again.
Costs on your side, such as network fees or Circle Gateway fees, are yours. Payments are final, except as the Refund policy provides.
No-charge cases and refunds
A refused call is not charged: 400 (invalid request), 402 (payment refused), 409 (payment conflict, or earlier payments still being confirmed), 429 (rate limited) and 503 (not selling right now). These responses say so.
If you paid and no result was served, you are owed a refund of the price you paid. The Refund policy says when and how refunds are made.
Availability
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". We do not guarantee uptime, response times or error-free operation.
A result usually arrives within a few seconds, but it can take longer. If a request is not fulfilled in time, we open one replacement request at our cost.
We may change, limit, suspend or stop the Service, or any network or feature, at any time, for example when costs exceed the price, a provider fails or we see abuse. Our documentation and benchmarks describe how the Service works. They are not a service level agreement.
Verification
Each result comes with on-chain records on Arc: the request and fulfillment transactions and a VRF proof that anyone can replay. The API response alone is not proof.
Verify a result before you rely on it, especially when money or prizes depend on it. The For agents and Verification guides show how.
A proof shows that a result follows from its fixed inputs. It does not guarantee that the operator stays available, or that data sources are accurate or independent. The Security model lists these assumptions.
Acceptable use
Rate limits apply. Calls over a limit get a 429 response and are not charged. You must not:
- use the Service for anything unlawful or fraudulent, or to harm others;
- get around rate limits or other controls, for example by rotating IP addresses or wallets;
- attack, overload, probe or disrupt the Service, its infrastructure, the D20DAO contracts or the networks it uses;
- exploit a bug to get results without paying or to be refunded more than once. Report it to us instead;
- misrepresent a result, its proof or your relationship with D20DAO.
We may block or suspend any IP address or wallet that we reasonably believe breaks these terms or puts the Service at risk.
Disclaimer of warranties
To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement and uninterrupted or error-free operation.
Some jurisdictions do not allow these exclusions. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have by law that cannot be waived.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data, goodwill or funds, arising from the Service or these terms.
Our total liability for all claims about the Service is limited to the fees you paid us for the Service in the 30 days before the event that gave rise to the claim.
These limits do not apply to liability that the law does not allow us to limit, such as liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
Third parties
The Service depends on services we do not control, including Circle Gateway, the Arc network and the other payment networks, and Cloudflare. We are not responsible for their outages, fees, rules or decisions. Your use of Circle Gateway is also subject to Circle's terms.
Blockchains can be congested, halted or reorganised. Transactions on them are public and permanent.
Changes to these terms
We may change these terms. We will post the new version on this page and update the date at the top. Changes apply to calls made after that date. If you keep using the Service, you accept the changed terms.
Disputes
If you have a complaint or a dispute about the Service, contact us first at contact@d20dao.org. We will try to resolve it with you.
General
These terms, the Refund policy and the Privacy notice are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service. If a court finds part of them unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce a term, we have not waived it. We may transfer these terms to whoever takes over the Service. Terms that by their nature should survive, such as refunds owed, disclaimers and limits of liability, continue after you stop using the Service.
