Refund policy
You pay for results that are served. If you paid and no result was served, you get the price back.
Last updated:
When you are not charged
A refused call is not charged, so there is nothing to refund. That covers 400, 402, 409, 429 and 503 responses, and payments with status rejected.
Your payment is settled before the request is opened on chain. If settlement fails, no request is opened and nothing is charged.
When a refund is due
A refund is due when your payment settled but no result was served. That happens when:
- the request could not be opened on chain; or
- the request was not fulfilled before its deadline, and the one replacement request we opened at our cost was not fulfilled either.
Such a call shows status refund_due at https://api.d20dao.org/v1/payments/{paymentId}, which is free to read.
No refund is due for a call that was served, including one served by its replacement request. A served result is final. We do not refund a result you dislike, a request sent with the wrong parameters or a lost result. Read a lost result again, for free, at that URL.
What is refunded
The API price you paid for the call, in USDC. The refund does not cover network fees, Circle Gateway fees or other costs on your side.
When a request expires, the D20DAO coordinator refunds its on-chain request fee to our relay contract, which paid it. That fee was our cost, not part of your payment, so it goes to the relay and not to you.
How refunds are paid
Clear cases are refunded automatically where we can. You do not need to ask.
Other cases are refunded by hand after review, for example when Circle Gateway never confirmed whether your payment was taken. Before paying, we check that the payment was taken and has not already been refunded.
Where refunds are paid
To the address that signed the payment, on the network you paid from: into its Circle Gateway balance, or as a USDC transfer on that network.
We do not send refunds to another address, or on a network you did not pay from.
How to ask
If you think you are owed a refund and have not received it, email contact@d20dao.org with:
- the paymentId of the call;
- the paying address and the network you paid on;
- what happened.
The paymentId is in the API's responses. You can also compute it from the payment you signed, as the For agents guide shows.
Ask within 30 days of the payment. We reply by email. This policy does not limit any right to a refund you have by law.
